Firdaria and Vimshottari dasha
Check out the period and subperiod rulers for the desired date.
Screenshots show the Ukrainian app interface. The English guide describes the same controls.
What it is and why it matters
Periods show the sequence of planetary rulers in the chosen tradition: firdaria or Wimshottari dasha. This is a time frame for further analysis that can be compared with other techniques.
When to use it
- To find the routers period for a certain date.
- Look at the subperiods and transition between them.
Terms explained
- Firdaria
- A sequence of periods of the seven planets and two nodes, with a total cycle of 75 years. Day and night charts have different ruler sequences. Major planetary periods are divided into subperiods.
- Dasha
- A sequence of planetary rulership periods in the Vedic tradition. In Vimshottari, the initial sequence and remaining period balance depend on the Moon’s position.
- Nakshatra and pada
- A nakshatra is one of the 27 sectors of the sidereal zodiac. A pada is one quarter of a nakshatra. Both are used in Vedic tables and periods.
- Ayanamsha
- The angular offset between the tropical and selected sidereal zodiacs on the chart date. Different ayanamshas can produce different sidereal positions.
Where to find it
The table is “Period”.
How to use it
- Set the date of viewing; there are sections firdaria and Wimshotari dasha on the screen.
- For firdaria, check the day/night scheme, night chart option and year duration.
- For Dasha, choose Ayaamsha and the duration of the year. See Nakshatra Moon and the rest of the first Mahadash.
- Open available subperiods to move to Antarctica and Pratiantardasa.
Settings and options
Select an option to learn how it works and when to use it. The label beside its name shows whether it affects calculations, chart appearance or data.
For date / TodayData
The date for which the current period rolers are shown.
- What changes
- Changes the current allocation and outcome, does not restart birth. Outside the available sequence there is a message.
- When to use it
- Select the date of the event to compare; Today quickly returns the current status.
Night chart: Robert Hand / Robert ZollerCalculation
Two orders of firdaria for night birth.
- What changes
- Can change the sequence and limits of periods. For day chart the list is inactive because the agenda is used.
- When to use it
- Select the authored version in the source. The gray field of the day chart does not mean a malfunction.
Firdaria — Year: 365 days / tropicalCalculation
How many days is a symbolic year of firdaria.
- What changes
- 365 days represents the corresponding ZET mode; a tropical year is approximately 365,24219 days. Over decades, boundaries accumulate the difference.
- When to use it
- To calculate calendar dates, specify the length of the year.
AyanamshaCalculation
The angular offset between the tropical zodiac and a particular sidereal zodiac. Different schools define different origins, so “sidereal” alone is not enough to reproduce a chart.
- What changes
- Available after selecting Sidereal. Changing the ayanamsha recalculates sidereal longitudes. Near boundaries, the sign, nakshatra, varga and initial dasha balance may change.
- When to use it
- Start with Lahiri unless your teaching method requires another ayanamsha. When comparing with a colleague, check the ayanamsha, date and node mode. The Vedic and Periods screens have their own ayanamsha selectors; check those separately.
Available options
- Lahiri
- Zorya Astro’s default, for reproducing Lahiri calculations.
- Raman
- B. V. Raman’s variant, with its own offset.
- Krishnamurti
- For methods that explicitly require this variant, including KP.
- Fagan–Bradley
- A separate standard in the Western sidereal tradition.
- Yukteshwar
- The Swiss Ephemeris definition for this school.
- True Chitra
- Spica is anchored at 0° Libra.
- Galactic center at 0° Sagittarius
- The coordinate origin is anchored to the Galactic Center.
The field is disabled in Tropical mode. A greyed-out field is expected because this offset is not applied in that mode.

Link to this controlDasha — Year: 365.25 days / 360 days (savana) / tropicalCalculation
Time scale of the length of Vedic periods.
- What changes
- Change the calendar starts and ends. Savannah 360 days is noticeably different from solar options.
- When to use it
- Choose by school; comparing dates without the same length of year is incorrect.
Mahadasha / Antardasha / PratyantardashaAction
The Great Period, its subperiod and the next level of detail.
- What changes
- The line disclosure shows the boundaries inserted. In firdaria nodes have no subperiods in this implementation.
- When to use it
- Switch from the big cycle to the smaller; the accuracy of the short level depends on the weekend Moon and the rules of the year.
The result
The current rulers will be highlighted and the boundaries of periods will be shown.
Worked example
This is a teaching example; results for your chart may differ.
- Situation
- You want to check if the consultation date falls on a change in subperiod.
- What to do
- Set a date and reveal the appropriate period levels.
- How to read the result
- Boundaries will help to place the date in sequence; they themselves do not describe a specific event.
For professional practice
On one screen, you can compare two periodization systems and check the impact of the duration of the year, Ayaamsha and night scheme.
What to check for a precise comparison
Fix the system and its parameters. In Wimshotari, the initial balance is related to the exact position of the Moon.
Keep in mind
The dates depend on the duration of the year and the Ayeamsha. Nodes in firdaria have no subperiods.
