Directions, solar arc and profections

Select a way to move points for the forecast.

Screenshots show the Ukrainian app interface. The English guide describes the same controls.

What it is and why it matters

directions move points of the output chart to the arc defined by the chosen method. So you can explore symbolic contacts for a certain age; solar arc and profections set this change differently.

When to use it

  • When working with a sun arc or propections.
  • When you need to check the difference between the zodiac and equatorial method.
Terms explained
Direction
A forecasting technique that moves chart points by a calculated arc. The selected method determines how the arc is calculated.
Radix
The reference chart used for comparison. It is usually a natal chart, but a radix does not have to represent a birth.
Asc and MC
The Ascendant (Asc) is associated with the intersection of the ecliptic and the eastern horizon. The Midheaven (MC) is associated with the upper part of the local meridian. Both depend on time and location.

Where to find it

“directions” above; selector F4 → the desired method.

How to use it

  1. Click on the “directions” for the zodiac solar arc.
  2. For another method, open F4: equatorial solar arc, zodiac, equatorial, Persian directions or propections.
  3. Set the background date. In the settings, check the method, arc or speed and conversion direction.
  4. Compare the directions of points with natal in the grid of aspects.

Settings and options

Select an option to learn how it works and when to use it. The label beside its name shows whether it affects calculations, chart appearance or data.

Direction methodCalculation

The arc rule to which the points of the weekend chart are transferred.

What changes
Changing the method reconstructs the derivative circuit; the type of coordinates and the way to obtain the bow differ.
When to use it
Select a specific method from the tutorial. Primary directions have a separate screen and are not synonymous with this menu.

Available options

Equatorial direction
Drawing in a straight line.
Zodiacal direction
The Zodiac Longitude.
Solar arc, equatorial
The arc of the chosen body in direct convergence.
Solar arc, zodiacal
The arrow of the chosen body for longitude.
Persian direction
Special Persian version; houses of the radix remain weekend.
Profection
Standard 30° per year: one sign per year.

Arc based onCalculation

A planet, by which the bow is determined in the method of the solar arc.

What changes
Typically Sun; the list allows you to choose another body. The field is only available for two arc methods.
When to use it
If not Sun is selected, make sure to name this body in the report so as not to issue a different calculation for a standard solar arc.

Degrees per yearCalculation

Symbolic transfer rate for methods with a fixed rate.

What changes
For conventional fixed directions initially 1° per year, for profections 30°. The greater rate moves points faster; in the bow methods this field is replaced by the choice of body.
When to use it
Leave the method value. Change the pace will change the date, even if all other settings are the same.

ConverseCalculation

Reverse directions of the arc.

What changes
Enabled: Conversion option applies; Off: straight. is not a mark of retrograde movement in natal chart.
When to use it
To test the individual conversion technique; indicate the direction along with method and pace.

The result

The external circle will show the chosen directions method.

Worked example

This is a teaching example; results for your chart may differ.

Situation
You need to explore contact directions MC with the natal planet.
What to do
Select the method, set a date and check the pair in the grid.
How to read the result
The result has a meaning along with the name of the method and the arc by which the points are transferred.

For professional practice

The obvious choice of method, planet arc, speed and conversion helps to reproduce a specific technique.

What to check for a precise comparison

The primary directions from the speculum are a separate instrument; their dates should not be identified with the dates of the solar arc.

Keep in mind

Primary directions from speculum are opened separately through the "Tables".
