Composite, Davison and coalescent charts
Build a shared chart from selected database records.
Screenshots show the Ukrainian app interface. The English guide describes the same controls.
What it is and why it matters
Common chart converts the participants’ data into one calculation chart. Composite, Davison and coalescent chart use different algorithms, so they match different ways of addressing a common theme.
When to use it
- When your methodology involves a joint chart of pairs or groups.
- When you want to compare the result of several algorithms on the same composition of participants.
Terms explained
- Composite chart
- A combined chart calculated by averaging corresponding points. For two charts, longitudes are averaged along the shorter arc. It does not represent the actual sky on a particular date.
- Davison chart
- A sky chart for the averaged birth time and location of the participants. The input times and locations are averaged before the positions are calculated.
- Coalescent chart
- A combined chart for two participants. Each pair of corresponding longitudes is transformed using a harmonic determined by their angular separation. This implementation uses Meridian houses and is a distinct algorithm.
- Synastry
- Comparison of two separate charts, including aspects between different people’s chart points. It differs from calculating a combined chart.
Where to find it
Chart indication on the left → «⋯» → desired type.
How to use it
- Save the participants’ charts. Select them in the list with Cmd-click (⌘-click) on Mac. Shift-click selects a range of records and also works on Windows/Linux.
- For composite and Davison, choose at least two chart; for coalescent, just two.
- Open “⋯” and select “Composite”, “chart Davison” or “coalescent chart”.
- Check the participants' names in the headline and the resulting positions in the table.
Settings and options
Select an option to learn how it works and when to use it. The label beside its name shows whether it affects calculations, chart appearance or data.
Selected charts / Build from selection / Clear selectionData
A set of participants of the joint chart, marked in the database.
- What changes
- Composite and Davison can use two or more charts; coalescent — exactly two. Removing the selection clears the set, does not delete records.
- When to use it
- Before building, turn names and numbers; a random third participant will change the result.
Composite / Davison / Coalescent chartCalculation
Three different algorithms for creating a common chart.
- What changes
- The composite mediates the points; Davison - the starting moment and place with subsequent calculation of the sky; the coalescent algorithm converts pairs of longitude through harmony.
- When to use it
- Choose the right algorithm for interpretation. This is not three options for designing a single chart.
The result
A joint chart is opened.
Worked example
This is a teaching example; results for your chart may differ.
- Situation
- For two people, there is already a synastry, but you want to consider the composite separately.
- What to do
- Mark both charts and build a composite; check the list of participants.
- How to read the result
- The new positions belong to a calculation common chart, not one of two people.
For professional practice
One selection of participants allows you to compare several ways to build a shared chart without re-entering data.
What to check for a precise comparison
Fix the algorithm and composition of participants. Composite and Davison are not interchangeable names; for a coalescent chart, you need exactly two.
Keep in mind
Type button is not available if the number of charts marked does not meet the requirements.
