Aspect graphs

See as bars on a time axis when the moving planets’ aspects enter orb, perfect and leave.

Screenshots of sample charts

What it is and why it matters

The graph lays a forecasting technique’s aspects out on a time axis. You see which contacts act together, how long each lasts and when it perfects, for a day, a year or several decades.

When to use it

  • To see a year or a decade of a forecast at a glance before reading single dates.
  • To compare a direction at 1° a month, or transits, with the events a client describes.
Terms explained
Aspect
An angular relationship between two chart points that matches an angle enabled in the calculation, such as a 90° square.
Orb
The permitted deviation from an exact aspect angle. A wider orb includes more contacts and extends the periods during which they are considered active.
Exact aspect
The moment when the deviation from the specified aspect angle reaches zero.

Where to find it

Forecasting → Aspect Graphs; also the Graph button in Transit Timeline.

How to use it

  1. Choose the technique: transits, progressions, directions, or Mundane for the transiting planets to each other. For progressions set the rate, for directions the method and degrees per year or the arc body; turn on Converse if needed.
  2. Set the period: a month, a year, 10 years or your own dates, from a few days to 120 years. The axis switches between hours, days, weeks, months and years by itself.
  3. Turn on the moving planets, aspects and natal points, and choose the rows: by the aspected natal point, by the moving planet, or by time with one aspect per row. Bars that overlap in time stack under each other.
  4. Hover a bar or reach it with Tab: the tooltip shows when it enters orb, every exact pass, when it leaves, and the orb. Click or press Enter to open the chart at the exact moment; right-click or press Shift+F10 for a menu: Chart at Exact Moment, Chart at This Moment (the time under the pointer) and Aspect Dynamics.

Settings and options

Select an option to learn how it works and when to use it. The label beside its name shows whether it affects calculations, chart appearance or data.

Period: Month / Year / 10 years / CustomCalculation

Time limits where the table or chart is looking for events. Available options depend on the screen.

What changes
Earlier/later buttons shift the entire period. Custom enables From and To. A longer period increases the amount of calculation.
When to use it
Start with the month for a quick review. To study rare events, expand the range; turn the time zone into the headline.

From / ToData

Beginning and end of the period, in the format of the date interface.

What changes
Set search boundaries, not a new date of birth. End should be later than the beginning; wrong boundaries need to be fixed.
When to use it
Use it to compare with a particular section of the event journal.

Moving planetsCalculation

Planets of predictive technique, the movement of which is compared to the radis.

What changes
The button on enables the planet, the off shuts off. “All” and “No” change the entire set. Moon gives a lot of short contacts.
When to use it
For longer cycles, start with slow planets; add Moon to study short intervals.

Aspects: Major / All / NoneCalculation

Choose the angular bonds that are needed in the current research.

What changes
"Major" leaves the main aspects, "All" includes all available set, individual buttons change a specific angle. orb sets the applied aspect set.
When to use it
The beginner is convenient to start with the major: conjunction 0°, sextile 60°, square 90°, trigon 120°, opposition 180°. Add other angles according to the methodology.

Natal pointsCalculation

The stationary points of the original chart, to which contact of moving planets are sought.

What changes
The buttons include or exclude search targets. Selecting Asc/MC makes the result particularly sensitive to birth-time accuracy.
When to use it
Sink the set to the desired significator for consultation; return "All" for a full review.

Technique: Transits / Progressions / Directions / MundaneCalculation

Where the moving positions come from: the actual sky, a progression’s symbolic rate, a direction’s arc, or the transiting planets to each other.

What changes
Transits and Mundane cover up to 120 years, progressions and directions up to 150. Mundane has no natal points, so their filter is hidden.
When to use it
For a “1° = 1 month” forecast choose directions, the zodiacal direction method and 12 degrees per year.

Bar / tick / dashes / arrow / tooltipAction

A bar is the time in orb, a tick an exact pass, dashes a retrograde loop that took the aspect out of orb and back, an arrow at the edge an aspect that continues beyond the period. The tooltip shows the entry, every exact pass numbered (1/3, 2/3, 3/3), the time out of orb, the exit and the orb.

What changes
Click or Enter sets Forecast Date & Time to the bar’s first exact pass in the period and opens the chart with this technique’s ring; without one, to the nearest pass or the middle of the bar.
When to use it
Retrograde motion can give one bar several ticks; they are numbered in order.

Selected aspect: exact passes / Chart at Exact Moment / DynamicsAction

The panel at the bottom keeps the last bar you hovered or reached with Tab.

What changes
A button with a date opens the chart at that exact pass; Dynamics opens the aspect’s deviation graph for transits, direct secondary progressions and the direct solar arc.
When to use it
For other techniques Dynamics is unavailable: its graph covers only these three.

View: Bars / By DayAppearance

Bars on a time axis, or a table where each row is an aspect and each column a day, week, month or year depending on the length of the period.

What changes
By Day shows what the Forecast Calendar used to show: a cell wherever the aspect is in orb, in the aspect’s colour and the more intense the larger its strength coefficient; a dot marks the exact pass; on top, the sums of the harmonious and challenging coefficients for the day (week, month or year). Click or press Enter on a cell to open the chart at the exact pass or where the aspect enters orb, on a row for the aspect’s dynamics; arrows, Home, End, Page Up and Page Down move through the grid. Export gives a period × aspect CSV. The choice is kept until the end of the session.
When to use it
To read a month day by day: which aspects act together and when each becomes exact.

Rows: By Natal Point / By Moving Planet / By TimeAppearance

How the graph puts bars into rows: by the aspected natal point, by the moving planet, or one aspect per row in order of entering orb.

What changes
Changes only the layout, not the dates. The choice is kept until the end of the session. In rows by moving planet, a transiting planet’s retrograde stretches are shaded.
When to use it
By Natal Point to see what acts on each point of the chart; By Time for a report in order of events.

Bar menu: Chart at Exact Moment / Chart at This Moment / Aspect DynamicsAction

Right-clicking a bar, the menu key or Shift+F10 opens the aspect’s actions.

What changes
Chart at Exact Moment opens the bar’s first exact pass in the period; Chart at This Moment the time under the pointer (from the keyboard, the bar’s middle); Aspect Dynamics the graph of the deviation from exact.
When to use it
To see the chart as the aspect enters orb or between exact passes, not only at the exact pass.

As Table / GraphAction

Switches between Aspect Graphs and Transit Timeline.

What changes
The other screen opens with the same technique, method, rate, period and filters.
When to use it
To check dates in the table, then come back to the graph.

ScaleCalculation

Determine how many days after birth correspond to one year of life. progressions is a symbolic re-calculation, not the actual sky of the current year.

What changes
Secondary: 1 days per year; Tertiary: approximately 13,37 days per year; Minor: approximately 27,32 days per year. “Own scale” uses a numerical field.
When to use it
To start with, secondary progressions are the easiest to check. For professional comparison, fix the scale; the same forecast date does not make different scales equivalent.

Direction methodCalculation

The arc rule to which the points of the weekend chart are transferred.

What changes
Changing the method reconstructs the derivative circuit; the type of coordinates and the way to obtain the bow differ.
When to use it
Select a specific method from the tutorial. Primary directions have a separate screen and are not synonymous with this menu.

Available options

Symbolic Directions (RA)
Drawing in a straight line.
Symbolic Directions (Longitude)
The Zodiac Longitude.
Solar Arc Directions (RA)
The arc of the chosen body in direct convergence.
Solar Arc Directions (Longitude)
The arrow of the chosen body for longitude.
Persian direction
Special Persian version; houses of the radix remain weekend.
Profection
Standard 30° per year: one sign per year.
Link to this control
Arc based onCalculation

A planet, by which the bow is determined in the method of the solar arc.

What changes
Typically Sun; the list allows you to choose another body. The field is only available for two arc methods.
When to use it
If not Sun is selected, make sure to name this body in the report so as not to issue a different calculation for a standard solar arc.
Link to this control
Degrees per yearCalculation

Symbolic transfer rate for methods with a fixed rate.

What changes
For conventional fixed directions initially 1° per year, for profections 30°. The greater rate moves points faster; in the bow methods this field is replaced by the choice of body.
When to use it
Leave the method value. Change the pace will change the date, even if all other settings are the same.
Link to this control
ConverseCalculation

Change the direction of symbolic counting from birth.

What changes
Off: direct movement by method; on: the progressive moment is taken before birth for the same age.
When to use it
Leave off for direct progressions; only turn on for special study conversion techniques. This is not the planet’s retrograde.

The result

The graph shows when each aspect is in orb over the chosen time: colour is the aspect’s colour on the wheel, a tick is an exact pass, a dashed stretch is a retrograde loop taking the aspect out of orb and back, an arrow at the edge means the aspect continues beyond the period.

Worked example

This is a teaching example; results for your chart may differ.

Situation
You opened a country’s solar return as a chart and want to read its 12° a year direction month by month.
What to do
Choose directions, the zodiacal direction method, 12 degrees per year and a one-year period; read the bars by moving planet.
How to read the result
Each bar is the month or two an aspect acts, its tick the exact moment. Click a bar to open the chart at that moment and check it.

For professional practice

From an overview of the period to a single date: the graph, the tooltip with dates, the chart at the exact moment, the aspect’s dynamics, and the table of the same periods for a report.

What to check for a precise comparison

The bars’ ends follow the orbs of the technique’s aspect page; exact passes are found to the second. Long periods merge short aspects: shorten the period for exact dates.

Keep in mind

A bar has its aspect’s colour as the wheel draws it: your own colour from the wheel style, otherwise the aspect family’s colour (conjunctions in the text colour, sextiles blue, tense aspects red, harmonious ones green). Semi-squares and sesquiquadrates are solid red like the tense aspects; quincunxes, semi-sextiles, quintiles and other minor aspects, which the wheel does not draw, are grey and dashed.

When a retrograde loop takes an aspect out of orb and back, it is one bar with a dashed gap, and its exact passes are numbered in order: 1/3, 2/3, 3/3 (there can be more passes). The two windows of one aspect (a semi-sextile 30° ahead and 30° behind) are separate bars. In rows by moving planet, a transiting planet’s retrograde stretches are shaded.

Over a long period, short aspects merge into solid bars without tooltips: shorten the period to point at each one.

As Table opens Transit Timeline with the same settings. Export saves the graph as PNG or SVG and the periods as CSV.
