What it is and why it matters

The Hamburg disc converts points into a selected angle scale and helps to search for planetary pictures and midpoint near the pointer. This is a specialized way to explore repeated geometric relationships.

When to use it

  • Studying Uranus Astrology.
  • When you are checking a specific midpoint or sensitive point formula.
Terms explained
Midpoint
The middle point between two positions on the zodiacal circle, also called their half-sum. The opposite point may also be considered.
Harmonic
A transformation that multiplies longitudes by a chosen number and reduces them to the circle. It helps examine particular angular relationships together.
Orb
The permitted deviation from an exact aspect angle. A wider orb includes more contacts and extends the periods during which they are considered active.

Where to find it

Technician of the Hamburg School.

How to use it

  1. Select the 360°, 90°, 45° or 22°30′ drive and orb midpoint.
  2. If necessary, turn on eight transneptun points and Aries point.
  3. Press or drag the disk to place the pointer. With degrees and minutes buttons, specify its position.
  4. Select a formula (sum, difference, midpoint or sensitive point), specify components and place a pointer on the result.
  5. Look at the points and midpoint near the pointer and the planetary painting tree.

Settings and options

Select an option to learn how it works and when to use it. The label beside its name shows whether it affects calculations, chart appearance or data.

Dial: harmonics 1 / 4 / 8 / 16Appearance

It makes a full circle at 360°, 90°, 45° or 22,5°.

What changes
Different zodiac points can coincide on the folded limb. This reveals the corresponding groups of angular relationships.
When to use it
Start with the 4th harmonic for 90° limbo; for interpretation, check the original longitude.

OrbCalculation

Admission for contact indicator and planetary paintings on the limbi.

What changes
A wider orb gives more relationships; the panel shows a re-calculation according to the harmonic.
When to use it
For comparison, write orb together with the lymbe, not just the number of degrees.

Uranian planetsCalculation

Adds eight calculation transneptun points of the Hamburg tradition.

What changes
On: points are involved in lymbi and pictures; off: excluded. These are hypothetical points of the technique, not a list of confirmed physical planets.
When to use it
Turn on when the technique uses them; to study normal bodies turn off.

Aries PointCalculation

A separate reference zero of the zodiac scale in this technique.

What changes
Enabled: can participate in formulas and contacts; turned off: is not included.
When to use it
For formulas that clearly include the Aries point.

Previous / Next point / ±1° / ±1′ / click the dialAction

Moves the indicator around which contacts are read.

What changes
The arrows move between points, the numerical buttons move the indicator at a given angle. The planets do not move.
When to use it
For a consecutive survey of the midpoint trees; a minute is an angle here, not a minute of time.

Pointer formula / A B C D / SetCalculation

Calculates the position of the indicator from selected points: midpoint, sum and difference by available expression.

What changes
The list of expressions determines the number of operands; "Put" moves the indicator to the result. The index formula differs from the language of the search terms.
When to use it
Select the planets you want for each letter; compile the expression before reading the picture.

The result

The disk and lists will show coincidences within the current orb.

Worked example

This is a teaching example; results for your chart may differ.

Situation
You want to check which points fall on the Sun/Moon axis.
What to do
Select the midpoint formula, place a pointer on the result and read contacts.
How to read the result
Check the matches along with the actual orb and the scale on which they are found.

For professional practice

The disk, the precise pointer steps, the formula and the midpoint tree provide a coherent set of tools for planetary pictures.

What to check for a precise comparison

Fix the harmony and set of points. The transneptunian points of this school should not be confused with the catalogue of physically observed distant bodies.

Keep in mind

The actual orb is divided into the disk harmonic; the value is shown next to the setting.
